Dog Coat

A dog coat is the fur which covers the animal. This fur can be long or short, soft or wiry, and can come in a multitude of colors. Some dogs are hairless and don’t even have coats. Some coats have little to no maintenance while others require hours of grooming.

Some dogs, such as the Poodle have only one coat, referred to as a hair coat. These coats are often hypoallergenic, meaning that they are less likely to cause allergies, although no dog is truly allergen free. This dog coat requires little grooming or maintenance and tends to not shed.

Other dogs, like the Newfoundland, have two dog coats and shed a lot. These animals are said to have double coats, meaning a soft undercoat and a coarse topcoat. Lots of time must be spent grooming these animals and it can be pretty expensive if you don’t plan on doing it yourself.
