Dog Kennels

Strictly speaking, a dog kennel is any sort of enclosure or housing for dogs. This could be as simple as a plain old dog house or an elaborate housing facility for multiple dogs. In short, if a dog lives there, then it is a kennel.

Aside from your run of the mill dog house, a breeding dog kennel is a facility, not necessarily separate from the home, used to breed dogs. Depending on the size of the operation these kennels could be large, state of the art, facilities for breeding various dogs. These large facilities are monitored by breed clubs and kennel councils.

The last sort of dog kennel, which has recently become popular, is the boarding kennel. These facilities are like dog hotels for people on vacation. For a fee, these kennels will house your dog, feed it, and let it play with other dogs for the duration of your vacation. There are also similar businesses, often called ‘doggy-day-care centers’ which will perform this service only while you are at work.
